Résumé: The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) plays an important part in the professional development of school principals. However, few researches have sought to understand principals’ EI on their motivation and attitudes at work. This study was conducted among 542 principals and assistant principals in the Province of Quebec (Canada). Results show the importance of autonomous motivation as a mediating mechanism between not only optimism / mood regulation and job satisfaction, but also between optimism / mood regulation and turnover intention. These findings have significant implications for future research.
